When In ATX
In-N-Out Virgins
So we just had In-N-Out Burger for the first time! Leading up to this, we've heard beaucoup hype surrounding this joint and we've also noticed the pop appeal that this brand seems to carry. Putting all that stuff to the side, and zeroing in on the food, their burgers actually are pretty good. In the realm of fast food, In-N-Out is definitely at the top of the food chain and we can liken their burgers to Steak-N-Shake's. The burgers weren't overly greasy and the fries had a fresh, crisp taste to them. In-N-Out doesn't beat a lot of restaurants with specialized, gourmet burgers, but they are definitely good in their own right and worth the experience.
Sweet Tea
Describing sound has got to be one of the most abstract things one can delve in, but if done right, the idea expressed can be broadly understood and properly interpreted. In describing the JHS Sweet Tea, "molten glass" makes the most sense…to us at least lol. Demo-ing this pedal for the first time a few weeks back at our boy Thomas' place while creating "Dangerous Love", it was easy to notice how awesome this pedal sounded. This two-in-one pedal with responsive controls for easy tweaking and a je ne se quoi that slices through the mix, creates a lane for itself, making it hard for pedals with similar functionality to keep up. The ballsy nature of the distortion side ("Angry Charlie") perfectly couples with the sugar sweet overdrive ("808") to create a match made in guitar tone heaven. The functions of the controls are below and you can be certain you'll hear this puppy snarl and scream on our latest tracks.
Left Side – "Angry Charlie"
- Volume: Controls the output volume.
- Drive: Controls the amount of drive or gain just like a tube amp being cranked at high volumes.
- Tone: This is a tone cut like you would find on an amp. Left is brighter, right is darker.
- Presence: Just like the presence knob on an amp, this allows you to dial in the perfect amount of high-end for compatibility with any amp. It works as a presence cut, left is brighter, right is darker.
Right Side – "JHS 808"
- Volume: Controls the output volume.
- Drive: Controls the amount of drive or gain just like a tube amp being cranked at high volumes.
- Tone: This is a tone cut like you would find on an amp. Right is brighter, Left is darker.
- 3 Way Gain Toggle: Down is stock saturated mode, middle is boost mode, and up is crunch mode.
Tumi Backpack
Behold…the Alpha Bravo Knox backpack by Tumi! Just got this compact, yet surprisingly spacious baby in the mail and I can already tell that I'll be thanking myself for this purchase for some time. Since graduating from college this past Spring, I thought it was time to retire my old faithful and get a backpack that's a bit more grown-up and more sturdy to stand up to the rigors of frequent travel. Having my eye on Tumi for a good while, I knew I wanted to go with them, but I wasn't sure which of their great bags would fit my needs best.
First of all, a potential bag had to be able to accommodate my new 15" MacBook Pro, iPad mini, Kindle Paperwhite, and random stuff like a headphone case, a jacket, and maybe even a DSLR camera body and lens. In scanning and surveying the different options Tumi has to offer, this backpack stuck out to me because of it's handsome looks and complimentary functionality. It fits all my gear comfortably, is super strong thanks to it's ballistic nylon construction, and it's ergonomic straps establish a yoke of ease on my shoulders. I am super happy to call this world-class bag mine! Thanks for being awesome Tumi! //
Thurman Café
We heard that to be in Columbus, Ohio and not visit Thurman Café is to do yourself a complete and utter disservice, so we decided to check it out for two reasons:
- We heard it was really really good.
- How often can we eat at a spot with “Thurman” in it’s name?
The spot is tight quartered and dimly lit, with deep wooden booths that line the walls and a feel that's authentic and homey. We both ordered the bacon burger plain with cheese and sautéd onions and it was as good as people hyped it up to be.
Portrait of a Portrait
Huge shoutout to @ikonikat all the way from Germamy for this beautiful piece of work inspired by a portrait taken by sharpshooter Chris Ozer. It looks amazing and we're extremely humbled that you chose a pic of one of us to jump-start your creative juices.
Floral 5-Panel
Our friend Melisa got a package from her cousin who runs The Lux Brands, and in the box he sent was this dope floral patterned 5-panel (say that five times fast) that you see here on my head! The quality of the fabric is good and the natural shape of the cap sits on our rather large foreheads quite nicely without bending out of shape. We also love how the leather adjustable strap in the back conveniently tucks and hides. What you see below is a 'grade A' warm weather 5-panel!
