You should NEVER button the bottom button of a vest or blazer, for that matter. This rule dates back to the 18th century when Englishmen were still riding horses. They found that whenever they buttoned the bottom button of their vests or coat, it would fit uncomfortably on them. This practical rule became a fashion staple to how we wear our vests and coats today. History tells us a lot!
