As told by Torrence:
•Max Martin: We love this guy for his infectious work that has permanently attached his songs to a generation. This is the man responsible for producing mega hits for pop music legends such as NSYNC, The Backstreet Boys, and Britney Spears just to name a few…quite a resumé!!
•Maxwell: His talent as a writer in our opinion is GREAT! His album “Black Summer’s Night” is in constant rotation in our vehicles. Also, this guy is definitely no slouch on stage, if you get an opportunity to see him live, you don’t want to miss out!
•John Mayer: We could go on and on about JM and his influence in our own music. Why do we like John Mayer? He’s one of the only pop “artists” that is also a very accomplished songwriter and let us not forget that this guy can definitely play the guitar better than most in his genre. We really appreciate his desire and ability be successful while doing things his own way.
•Ryan Tedder: We fell in love this guy at LSU’s 2011 “Groovin’ on the Grounds”. As the lead singer of OneRepublic, we were blown away by his talent and his ability to perform. We soon found out that this was the same guy that co-wrote Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love” as well as work on Adele’s latest album, “21”. O_o enough said!
As told by Thurman:
•The Smeezingtons: This production team made our list because of their hard-hitting drums and smash pop hits made famous by the honey-glazed vocals of Bruno Mars. Their sound is huge and their songwriting is multi-dimensional, yet easily identifiable. The Smeezingtons’ name, like their sound, is equally unforgettable.
•Robin Thicke: We first saw this guy on a late night talk show. Didn’t remember his name after watching him perform on the show, but what stuck out was his long-haired, hippie persona, and the fact that he was a white guy with this soulful element that oozed through the airwaves. Fast-forwarding to now, we’ve enjoyed watching him evolve and mature as an artist over his past few LP’s. No one songwrites like Robin Thicke! He just has a knack for putting together concepts and melodies that are brow-raising and eye-opening.
•Dr. Luke: This guy first cut his teeth in the music business by playing guitar in the SNL house band and later migrated to DJ-ing. It wasn’t until later that he got into writing and production by linking up with Max Martin and his crew. Arguably the architect of today’s Top 40 sound, Dr. Luke’s style is the poster-child for “complexity wrapped in simplicity”. If you’ve heard anything by Ke$ha, Katy Perry, or Britney Spears over the past few years, then you’ve heard some of his handi work.
•The Neptunes: The fellas in this production trio were kings of the game in the 90’s and early 2000’s, and are certified living legends today. Their sound can’t be duplicated and is genuinely unmistakeable. We love their signature drums, crazy, unorthodox sounds, and bridges that actually take you somewhere. To put it simply, a Neptunes production is as refreshing as a filled kiddie pool in the middle of the Mojave.
