Love Austin so much that I decided to leave some of my face on South Congress.
On a Wednesday night, July 22, I decided to go for a ride around the city with two of my friends, Mikee and Deshawn. We had done it the night before and what stuck out to me most was the stillness of the city. This night brought the same feeling. It’s like we had the whole city to ourselves as we zoomed on Wheels bikes at 20 mph top speed.
All I remember is seeing a pothole and waking up in an ambulance.
Yup, that’s it. I’ve been in some accidents before, so I could tell that something just wasn’t right. It wasn’t a feeling of panic at all, just like, “Whoa, I am in an ambulance, so lemme chill.” I asked one of my homies where my phone was and if I had all my teeth. Thankfully, “Yeah” was the answer that I heard. My phone was handed to me, so I turned the selfie camera on to see what kinda damage I was working with. My honest first thought was that it wasn’t that bad. Looked like I got in a fight with the pavement I apparently face-planted on. Don’t really remember much about the ride to the hospital, just that it didn’t seem long. I was probably in the hospital about a good two and half hours and had to do a CT scan to make sure there wasn’t any facial or skull fractures or any brain bleeding. None of that, thank God! The nurses took good care of me and the doctor who stitched up my cheek and eyebrow decided to use the smallest stitching they had available because she said she thought I was a model lol. Torrence picked me up as soon as I was discharged and I was happy to see that Deshawn and Mikee were with him too. As soon as I shut my door, I wanted to know what exactly happened during the gap in my memory from seeing the pothole to waking up in an ambulance. Deshawn told me he heard a crash behind him and saw me slide on my face about ten feet. He circled back to me and I was unconscious. Deshawn yelled for Mikee, who then turned around and they were both trying to revive me. One of them called 911 and until help came they said would just randomly ask questions like, “Where’s my phone?”, “Did I have all my teeth?” etc etc.
We’re on the road to recovery peeps and I’m thankful for the amazing people in my life…thankful to be alive too because this taught me you can literally be gone in an instance. We have some new music on the way! This injury has definitely slowed down plans for visuals, but we’re just going to have to get creative. We’ve gotta new single called “Montopolis Drive” that we’ll be releasing August 25.
